Kia ora, this blog intends to provide a record of Kāhui Kai Tahu's (an Otago Polytechnic Maori Staff group) trip to present at the International Network of Indigenous Health Conference (INIHKD). The conference will be held in Poulsbo, Washington State, U.S.A. from the 24th-28th of May 2010. In addition to presenting at the conference the party will also be meeting with persons and communities concerned with Indigenous health in Vancouver and surrounding areas. We hope you find our record both informative and entertaining.

Kahui Kai Tahu. Who we are
Below are short biographies of who will be traveling to the conference.
Dr Russell (Kai Tahu)
Khyla holds the position of Kaitohutohu at the Otago Polytechnic. This role is part of the Polytechnic’s leadership team and is charged with overseeing the embedding of the Treaty of Waitangi across the organization.
Eleanor Murphy (Kai Tahu)
Eleanor is a Mâori Diabetes educator first employed by the Otago Hospital
Eleanor is contracted by the Otago Polytech for staff and student hui.
Justine Camp (Kai Tahu, Kati Mamoe, Waitaha and Rapuae)
Justine works across various Otago Polytechnic schools developing curriculum which reflects Maori values and aspirations. Justine is currently enrolled in her PhD which is looking at Establishing and testing a Diabetes education Intervention programme for Māori with Type II Diabetes Mellitus and their whānau. Justine has one daughter Takiwai who is 14.
Kristi Carpenter (Kai Tahu)
Kristi works at the School of Occupational Therapy as a Lecturer and associate fieldwork co-ordinator. Kristi also works part time in a rural primary health organisation as an occupational therapist Kristi’s passion is in mental health, primary health care and the exploration of ways of working with Maori that improves Maori health outcomes in New Zealand.
James Sunderland (Ngati Maniapoto)
James works at the School of Occupational Therapy as a Lecturer. He teaches across all three years of the degree. James is involved in assisting facilitate the schools hui and treaty group. He has a strong commitment to support the recruitment and retention of both Maori and Male practitioners into the profession. His previous occupation practice has been in the field of traumatic brain injury.
James is looking to start his masters study this year.
